Growing apples is a real craftmanship. One needs a huge amount of knowledge and a love for nurturing the trees that grow your apples.
Tessa® is not an ordinary apple. No, she meets the high quality standards that we have defined for her firmness, colour and sweet taste. To ensure her premium and consistent quality Tessa® is only grown by selected growers.
Tessa® is produced with the environment and climate in mind. All of our growers have the independent certification GLOBALG.A.P. which is only assigned to partners proven to produce, grow, package or transport sustainably. All growers are certified to meet the highest European standards.
Therefore the growers are committed to the following points:
Growers make bees feel welcome by planting flowers round the edge of the plots.
Growers invest in new, energy efficient warehouses, cooling and tractors with lower fuel consumption.
Growers use minimum crop protection products.
Growers focus on biodiversity through for example wind hedges, nesting boxes and insect hotels.
Continuous research is done, because we think innovation and quality improvement is very important.
To ensure traceability growers work with systems that register all the apples they produce.
Eliminating non-recyclable or single-use plastics.
Reducing food waste throughout the supply chain. The great storability of Tessa® ensures a high quality product and reduces food waste.
If we prefer local products – and this may not come as a surprise – we’ll have to produce locally. But this doesn’t work for just any kind of apple. That’s why our growers are constantly looking for delicious kinds that aren’t too demanding. The ones you can grow without any shenanigans. And which provide trees covered with blossoming apples. You can imagine that the search for this perfect breed takes up a lot of time – at least 10 to 15 years.
